Blocking Facebook Sponsored Posts on Android

I’ve always preferred to have Facebook without the adverts or sponsored posts, both on my laptop and on my Android phone.

Previously I’ve used the Brave browser (https://brave.com/) on my Android phone which removed adverts and sponsored posts well for a while but recently it has started to show them in Facebook again. It had also started to slow down and scroll jerkily when browsing the m.facebook.com site.

I tried several other Ad Blocking browsers (Opera, Firefox Focus, etc.) from the Google Play Store but none successfully blocked the Sponsored Posts.

On my laptop I use Chrome with the (highly recommended) Fluff Busting Purity extension (https://www.fbpurity.com/) installed to block the sponsored posts amongst other unwanted items.

Whilst Fluff Busting Purity isn’t officially available or supported on Android I found a web browser called Kiwi (https://kiwibrowser.com/) that will run desktop Chrome extensions on Android. Trying the desktop Fluff Busting Purity extension in Kiwi proved to work and blocked the sponsored posts!

So the solution:

  • Install “Kiwi Browser” on your Android phone from the Play Store
  • Open the app and click the 3 dot menu at the top
  • Select “Extensions”
  • Click “+ (from store)”
  • Search for “Fluff Busting Purity”
  • Click “Add to Chrome” (Which adds it to Kiwi!)

Then to complete things nicely – Navigate to m.facebook.com in the Kiwi Browser on your Android phone and hit the 3 dot menu, then select “Add to Home screen” to add an icon to your home screen that fires up Facebook in Kiwi Browser without adverts or sponsored posts!
